With residency over and fellowship not scheduled to begin until August, Ryan spent July studying for his boards exam and packing for his big move to Houston, where he would be spending the 2012-2013 year completing a fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesia at Texas Heart Institute.
Similar to May, the month started off very fun, with a baby shower for the Contes held at our house (and co-hosted by Brooke), which included a post-party show by our favorite 80s cover band, Sixteen Candles.
We then celebrated Ryan's 30th birthday with friends (and our pups, naturally).
We also attended an engagement party for Ryan's college roommate Pat Simon that weekend.
Then, just for fun, we went to Medieval Times with the Contes and Brooke and Beach, where Murph had fun practicing eating with her hands.
The end of the month involved a surprisingly fun road trip from Chicago to Houston (stopping in St. Louis for dinner with Anna and Luke Tierney) to move Ryan into his new place. After a massive visit to Ikea, we flew back to Chicago, where Ryan proceeded to dominate his boards exam on May 30th. This huge accomplishment was marred when, during the post-exam celebration on Bryan and Kristin's beautiful boat on Lake Michigan, Ryan's Achilles was re-ruptured. This was a fairly devastating, as Ryan was preparing to move to Houston and start his new job the next week...
